How to Design a Virtual Marketplace: Calibre Press Case Study

Virtual marketplaces give event organizers a way to showcase exhibitors, connect visitors with businesses, and provide sponsors with visibility beyond the dates of a physical event.

With an interactive floor plan, organizers can create a digital space where visitors explore exhibitor profiles, discover products and services, and access sponsor information in one place.

That's what Calibre Press, a training network for law enforcement professionals, wanted to achieve.

Lisa Gitchell, President of Calibre Press, approached ExpoFP with an idea: create a virtual marketplace where sponsors could be featured and discovered online.

There was one challenge. Calibre Press had never organized a virtual marketplace before and didn't have an existing layout to work from.

Unlike a physical trade show, a virtual marketplace doesn't need to follow the dimensions or restrictions of a convention center. This gave our design team more flexibility to explore different layouts.

Using Calibre Press's branding, logos, and website as references, the ExpoFP team developed several floor plan concepts for the client to review and choose from.

One of the concepts incorporated Calibre Press's badge into the virtual marketplace design.the exhibitor spaces were arranged within the badge itself, creating a layout that reflected the organization's identity.
Another concept took a different approach, using a target and pistol illustration to create a themed marketplace. Exhibitor booths were incorporated into the visual elements, showing how a virtual floor plan can move beyond conventional event layouts.
